Today: Yorkshire Coast: Scarborough from Filey and Robin Hoods Bay
Part one - Scarborough itself is a lovely and pretty big seaside town. Accommodation comes to suit everyone, and even walking the the length of the North and South bays is a good 4 miles - plenty for one day! Don’t forget to check out the beautiful gardens as well. Peasholm and the Rose garden are both lovely strolls, but don’t forget the Italian garden which is quite secluded and almost deserted when we’ve been there, even on a sunny day - check our story to see it’s elegant design. The walk up to the castle offers fantastic views on a clear day - a lovely place to see the sweep of the coast on either side.
Part two: Filey to Scarborough Catch the train from Scarborough and get off 15 minutes later in Filey. Filey itself is a lovely place to sit on the beach if you have time - if you start early enough it should be managble. From here, walk back along the coast the Scarborough. This is a lovely, not too difficult walk - scroll for some photos to get inspired. This is a great walk to help get started on on coast paths - they can be steep and tiring, but this one is perfect to ease you in. You will be bitten by the bug I'm sure!
Part Three: Robin Hoods Bay to Scarborough There’s a great bus service from Scarborough to Robin Hoods Bay. This is a quaint little village with good facilities, plenty of photo opportunities in amongst the steep streets down to the coast! The walk back to Scarborough is not for the faint hearted. There are lots of steep ups and downs - especially at the start! But it’s a rewarding trek - scroll for some of the dramatic views on offer. You will never be so pleased see the sweep of the North Bay to descend the final path into Scarborough. Remember it’s not a small place so there’s a convenient bus stop here (at the aquarium) if your feet need a bit of help getting back to base.
